The FKA is glad to inform, that there will be a Finnish referee in this year's upcoming European Kendo Championships in Hungary.
He is Mikko Salonen, 6th Dan Renshi.

This is a first time, that a Finnish referee is selected. It's very good news indeed and hopefully contributes to promoting the status of Finnish kendo abroad - Europe and otherwise.

EKC 2008 officials to receive support in camp fees 25/06/2009
BRIEF FROM THE FKA:

The board of the Finnish Kendo Association held a meeting in Hämeenlinna on June 13th 2009 and decided during that meeting, that the financial profits of the EKC 2008 should be used for the benefit of FKA members. Support is given among other things by strongly supporting camp fees for all EKC 2008 officials during particular events.

The events, for which all, who are hierby concerned can obtain financial support are the following:

1. Pori Jazz Camp with Muto sensei, July 2009
2. Oulun Kendo Club's 10-year Anniversary Camp with Ota sensei, September 2009
3. Helsinki Camp with Ishizuka sensei, October/November 2009
4. Takeda Camp, March 2010

The Camp with Iwatate sensei, which was originally planned for this purpose and was to be held in August 2009 was unfortunately cancelled due to illness.

The principal idea is, that none of these camps are completely free of charge for anyone, but that they are very heavily supported by the FKA.

The reasons for this decision in its entirety are, that all these events are located in various areas of the country and are therefore accessible to more people. The support given directly to members encourages them to train more.

There are about 100 people, who are concerned by this decision. The amount of financial support is 30 euros per camp. The support is given to each camp separately and it cannot be used for another purpose except the one stated above.

In addition to the support mentioned above, the EKC 2008 profits are to be used for organizing FKA camps and inviting teachers from Japan. This way the profits benefit also those, who were not personally involved with the organization of the EKC 2008.
